• Let's say that the owner comes on board in a really lousy mood and starts blaming you for things. How would you handle it?

• My interviewer said that safety is #1, but customer service is a close 2nd. She also said that commercial pilots, who spend a lot of time behind the locked cockpit door, find challenges in the customer service model of NetJets, where they are on the front lines and have to prep/cater/clean/and interact directly with the customer.

Day One

• The night before the interview

You get to Top of Climb and Federer comes up and says there is no red wine and he specifically asked for red wine. WWYD?
• Flying an owner coast to coast, over Kansas City, owner says he want to stop for a steak dinner, WWYD?
• You are taking the governor from Mammoth back to Sacramento and on preflight you discover the coffee pot is broken and the MEL requires that it be fixed. How do you handle it?
• On the walk around you discover a nav light is burnt out. The owner really wants to go, what would you do?
• You are about to start a ferry leg and the captain says "We don't need the checklist" and takes it from you and puts it away. What do you do?

Simulator

• Older Citation I/II, non-motion, sim
• Pick which seta you want to fly from
  • Right seat= no electric trim, limited PFD display (no FMS to set it up, no heading bug)
  • Left Seat= steam gauges (w/HSI), electric trim
• Round dials, no glass
• Will be with a sim partner- use CRM
• Takeoff RWY 1 at ILG (Wilmington, DE)
• Climb to 4000 with turns left and turn right in the climb
• Climb to 6000
• Steep turns left and right
• Cleared direct HADIN, the LOM
• Given instructions to hold (published) at HADIN
• Descend in hold from 6000 to 4000 to 2000
• Cleared for ILS 1
• Evaluation stops when you break out
• Hints:
  • No tricks, no emergencies
  • You are allowed to use the sim profile in the sim
  • FO can make your power adjustments, except during the steep turns
  • Brief the approach on the ground, if possible
  • Roll sensitivity was a little more then expected
  • Don't use the rudder- keep your feet on the floor
  • Don't need to tune and ID, it is done for you
  • Make radio calls
  • Stay inside/keep flying, even when your partner calls runway in sight
  • Use CRM
• They give you the profile sheet but here is the nutshell: Takeoff (first flap detent) at 150 - 200kts (12 - 15 degrees nose up). At 1000feet you retract flaps and set climb power (90%). Level off at 4000 (about 3 degrees nose up) and set power of about 73 %. Start steep turns. Add power to about 80% going through 30 degrees bank (pitch up to about 5 degrees). You then go direct LOM to hold. Each of you will get different entries. Fly hold at 150kts (about 64% power). I set flaps on inbound turn and then gear down one dot below gs, final flaps at gs intercept. Fly ILS at 120Kts. About 500-600 FPM to maintain G/S.

Comments

• Do not count on the older non-motion Citation sim; you may be thrown into the G200 and that will be a handful -- heavy on roll, light on pitch. Make power changes gradually --- it pitches up when power is reduced and pitches down when power is added. Stay in the V-bars . . . if you get a V1 cut (keep it on the ground until directional control is established) or S/E go-around -- the trick is to KEEP THE WINGS level ... forget what you know about rudder, you can apply that later (rudder bia is worthless - don't wait for it to tell you). again - stay in the V-bars and maintain wings level . . . that is the key. Then, if you get hired, pray that you don't get put in the G200 . . . it will change all that you ever knew about flying! (09/21/08)

• Be yourself
• For the situational questions, always put safety and legality first. They will try to pressure you into breaking the law and/or doing something unsafe to please the owner- stick to the right answer- safety first, then listen to the wants/need of the owner.
• When coming up with alternative solutions to a problem, don't forget to use all available resources- other pilots, FBOs, the company itself, etc. Gather information to come up with the best solution for everyone.
